The Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center is a 19,000-square-foot facility that serves as a destination for visitors, students, and experts in botany and horticulture. Developed for the University of Missouri Extension, Springfield-Greene County Park Board, and Friends of the Garden, Inc., the center houses public meeting rooms, learning labs for gardening groups, administrative offices, and open museum exhibit spaces.
The building is sited at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, nestled into the hillside and overlooking the meadows surrounding Drummond Lake. Our design team considered natural views, sun angles, wind patterns, use of materials, and the sequence of discovery and movement to make the most of the experience for all users. Maximizing construction efficiency helped minimize the building’s impact on the existing park and its environment.
