Since its original construction during the 1980s, the Grand Street underpass has conducted foot traffic from the main Missouri State University (MSU) campus under the busy street to three parking lots used by students, staff, and visitors. Recognizing the need to bring the facility up to date, particularly with regard to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the University has commissioned a number of improvements.
Civil-engineering firm Olsson consulted hdesigngroup to enhance school pride and vibrance for the project. Updates include installing an ADA ramp system and elevator for enhanced accessibility, as well as extending and widening the underpass to better handle the flow of people from the campus to the ADA, metered, and commuter parking lots at its southern edge.
